i also figured out that if you really want something badly enough, you can do anything for 30 days. have you ever wanted to write a novel? every november, tens of thousands of people try to write their own 50,000 word novel from scratch in 30 days. it turns out, all you have to do is write 1,667 words a day for a month. so i did. by the way, the secret is not to go to sleep until you’ve written your words for the day. you might be sleep-deprived, but you’ll finish your novel. now is my book the next great american novel? no. i wrote it in a month. it’s awful. but for the rest of my life, if i meet john hodgman at a ted party, i don’t have to say, “i’m a computer scientist.” no, no, if i want to i can say, “i’m a novelist.”

65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.

In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon’s mouth.

He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 20xx, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome.

When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error.

Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. I would like to say to all of my friends: Let’s be honest people of good moral character.

Breaking deeply imbedded habitual tendencies such as procrastination, impatience, criticalness, or selfishness that violate basic principles of human effectiveness involves more than a little willpower and a few minor changes in our lives. “Lift off” takes a tremendous effort, but once we break out of the gravity pull, our freedom takes on a whole new dimension.

Like any natural force, gravity pull can work with us or against us. The gravity pull of some of our habits may currently be keeping us from going where we want to go. But it is also gravity pull that keeps our world together, that keeps the planets in their orbits and our universe in order. It is a powerful force, and if we use it effectively, we can use the gravity pull of habit to create the cohesiveness and order necessary to establish effectiveness in our lives.

The AIDS epidemic offers an example. The broad goal, of course, is to end the disease. The highest-leverage approach is prevention. The ideal technology would be a vaccine that gives lifetime immunity with a single dose. So governments, drug companies, and foundations fund vaccine research. But their work is likely to take more than a decade, so in the meantime, we have to work with what we have in hand – and the best prevention approach we have now is getting people to avoid risky behavior.

You have to have the statistics, of course. You have to be able to show that a program is vaccinating millions more children. It is virtually impossible at this distance to grasp at all the real significance of the situation."

My mother, who was filled with pride the day I was admitted here – never stopped pressing me to do more for others. A few days before my wedding, she hosted a bridal event, at which she read aloud a letter about marriage that she had written to Melinda. My mother was very ill with cancer at the time, but she saw one more opportunity to deliver her message, and at the close of the letter she said: "From those to whom much is given, much is expected."

For a few hours every week, you can use the growing power of the Internet to get informed, find others with the same interests, see the barriers, and find ways to cut through them.

Unconsciously, I think of the abstract word “patriotism”。 Some “patriots” resist the consumption of Japanese products. Some “patriots” damage Japan manufactured cars. Some “patriots” make humiliating GIFs about Japan. Some “patriots” attack countries that do not admit the China’s sovereignty of Diaoyu Island. The examples are endless. At their points of view, these are demonstrations of patriotism. Nonetheless, these actions may be too impulsive. Im eager to welcome the coming Olympic Games together with my fellow countrymen, and I wish I could do something for the Olympics for the city.

As we know, Beijing will host the 29th Summer Olympic Games in 20xx. As a Chinese, I think many people are thinking: what we can do for Beijing Olympic Games. Most of us are not athletes, we cannot take part in competitions directly; we are not officials either, we dont need to do the preparatory work. We are only ordinary people, what we can do!

There are still so many things we can do! For example, for me, I am a graduate majoring Business English. As far as I am concerned, I will keep on learning English hard, and apply for being a volunteer. I will use English to serve the Games together with other volunteers. And also, as a businessman at that time, I will avail myself of the great commercial opportunities that the Olympics brings to us, make more efforts to offer my contribution to the growth of our national economy.

And for all of us, with the goal to host a "Green Olympics", we shall plant more trees, grass flowers. Dont waste water. In order to alleviate the problems of air pollution traffic congestions, we shall take buses subways more. With the goal to host a "Peoples Olympics", and in order to make our Olympics more attractive and to make our Beijing more beautiful, we shall help everyone we meet who needs help, we shall abide by traffic rules, dont smoke in public and no spitting. The most important way for our Chinese to support our Beijing Olympic Games, in my opinion, is to work hard on our duties.

时间飞,2年过去了。现在我是一名研究生。我的老师和同学总是问我:你毕业后你的计划是什么?回家,留在北京,还是去其他地方?我总是回答:我将呆在北京。我做出这个决定,不是因为我答应我的朋友两年前,而是因为:我爱上了北京!我渴望欢迎奥运连同我的同胞们,和我希望我能做一些为奥运会和城市。

正如我们所知,北京将在20xx年举办第29届夏季奥运会。作为一个中国人,我想很多人都想:我们能做什么为北京奥运会。我们大多数人不是运动员,我们不能直接参与竞赛;我们不是官员,我们不需要做准备工作。我们只是普通人,我们所能做的!

仍然有很多事情我们可以做!例如,对我来说,我是一个研究生专业商务英语。就我而言,我将继续努力学习英语,并申请成为一个志愿者。我将使用英语与其他志愿者一起为奥运会服务。而且,作为一个商人,我将利用自己的商业机会,奥运会带给我们,做出更大的努力提供我对国民经济的增长的贡献。

和对我们所有人来说,举办一个“绿色奥运”的目标,我们将种植更多的树木,草地和鲜花。不要浪费水。为了缓解空气污染和交通拥挤的问题,我们应当采取公共汽车和地铁。目标主机“人文奥运”,为了使我们的奥运会更具吸引力和使我们的北京更加美丽,我们应该帮助那些需要帮助的每个人我们见面,我们应当遵守交通规则,不要在公共场所吸烟,不随地吐痰。最重要的为我们的中国支持我们的北京奥运会,在我看来,努力工作是我们的职责。
